A menstrual disorder is any abnormal condition that affects a girl's menstrual cycle.
Some common menstrual disorders include:
Amenorrhea: The absence of menstruation for several months in a row, not due to pregnancy or breastfeeding. Causes include hormone imbalances, stress, weight gain, eating disorders, and other health problems.
Menorrhagia: Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding that can interfere with normal activities and lead to anemia, fainting, and other health problems. Causes include fibroids and hormone imbalances.
Irregular periods: Periods that occur fewer than 21 days or more than 35 days apart, missing three or more periods in a row, or menstrual flow that's much heavier or lighter than usual. Causes include lack of ovulation or infrequently ovulating.
Dysmenorrhea: Painful menstrual cramps
These can indicate underlying medical problems like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. Dr. De Souza is an expert at evaluating and treating these conditions to help manage both the symptoms and underlying disease to ensure better health for your child.

Weight management is a chronic (lifelong management with good habits starting in childhood), complex (many regulating hormones that cause challenges with weight management) and heterogenous disease (there are different cardiovascular and metabolic manifestations and these will vary from person to person).
Evidence-based medicine shows pediatric patients benefit from early treatment because they develop healthy habits and lifestyle patterns, improve health and quality of life, improve body composition, prevent future adverse health consequences and improve body image and self esteem.
Dr. De Souza will work with you and your family to create a comprehensive and holistic approach including nutrition, physical activity, behavioral health and pharmacotherapy as necessary to help improve your child's overall health and well-being.
